The weather has been cold all week and so we decided to make some comfort food tonight. Beef stew seemed like a good idea. Paula bought some stew beef, potatoes, onions, and carrots at the grocery store last weekend. Theodore cut up all the vegetables yesterday morning. Paula browned the meat in a skillet for a few minutes. Then we put everything into the crock pot. Paula had made a broth to cover everything on the previous day. This broth consisted of 2 cups of beef broth, a cup of port wine, and 1/2 cup of Worcestershire sauce. Paula poured this over everything. Then she mixed a few tablespoons of flour with a few tablespoons of water. After combining the flour and water, she added it to the broth and gave it a good stir. We covered it and turned the crock pot on low and went to work. By the time that we got home tonight, the house was filled with the aroma of beef stew and it tasted terrific! All in all, a great meal for a cold night!
